Can your older Notebook take 4GB of memory?

It is becoming a common question as more users move to Vista and Windows 7. “Your memory finder says I can install 2GB of memory, but I want to upgrade to 4GB. ”

Well, the short answer is maybe…

If you have a laptop or desktop that is a few years old like me you will most likely find that in your user manual it supports DDR2533 or DDR2667 memory up to 2 gigabytes maximum.

However, many of the chipsets in machines of this era are actually capable of handling up to 4Gb of memory. When these machines were released to market 2Gb memory modules cost as much as $2000 each so few manufacturers worried about whether or not they worked with machine. However, over time 2Gb module prices have dropped dramatically, so manufacturers have started providing Bios updates which allow machines previously limited to 2Gb to go up to 4Gb.

If you have a laptop or desktop that supports DDR2 memory and is just a few years old, feel free to call us on 07 5641 2298 and we will determine whether it can be made Windows 7 ready!!
